Carlota Guerrero defies convention with her honest and clear focus on the diversity of womanhood. Guerrero’s creative direction and photography focus on spacial awareness. She uses elements of nature, soft light, & cyclical shapes to capture the Female Gaze. Carlota Guerrero’s work has been a source of inspiration for me. She creates a world of her own on her terms. Her work extends beyond creating an attractive piece of art. Guerrero challenges convention in such a conscious way she reinvents the standard of women in art. Guerrero’s art contributes to a framework of change that centers women in all forms.

Perception and framing—the gaze is a central focus in the image. Guerrero makes the viewer conscious of perception all the while the main subject of the photo is asleep. Either Mizuhara is unaware of the gaze or has chosen to escape the feeling of being perceived by turning her back and going to sleep.
